A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nelson Ahamefula Akuma, has commended the Senator representing Federal Capital Territory, Ireti Kingible, on her defection.

Recall that the lawmaker formally joined ADC on Thursday after collecting the party’s membership card in Abuja.

Akuma said that by not joining the other cash and carry politicians who are moving into the ruling party simply showed that Kingibe has no skeleton in her cupboard.

He said that it is clear that it is fear of the anti -graft agency and failing election that is pushing the other politicians to APC.

Speaking further, he said that the ruling party no longer believe that power belongs to the people, adding that is the reason why they are talking about capturing states instead of winning votes.

He said that a lot of the first term state governors who are defecting to the ruling party are doing that because they are afraid of their election being stolen by the ruling party if they don’t defect.

According to him, Ireti Kingibe has demonstrated that she understood the plights of Nigerians and decided to align with them, instead of the party that is oppressing them.

Speaking further, he said that her defection is not going to be one-off, adding that many more well-meaning Nigerians are on their way to ADC.

“I want to commend Senator Ireti Kingibe for her decision to join the African Democratic Party. The decision showed that she is a woman of courage and integrity. We all know that the ruling party is using EFCC to coerce senators, House of Reps members and even governors to join them. If you say no, they would threaten you with arrest and prosecution. Therefore, for Senator Kingible to be courageous enough to join ADC is because she is forthright. It shows that we still have politicians who still care for the people. And it is when government knows that it has failed to deliver on its campaign promises that it begins to use coercion to get members. In 2014, Nigeria was the fastest growing economy in Africa. But in 2025, Tinubu is saying that APC is the fastest growing party in Africa. What does that tell you? APC does not care for the Nigerian people. The realization is everywhere and I know that Senator Kingible’s defection is just the beginning of more defection to ADC,” Akuma said.

He called on other Nigerians in the other political parties to emulate her by joining the vehicle that would turn Nigeria around for the better.
