Nick Reiner has been taken into custody on a murder charge following the deaths of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.

Rob and Michele were killed in their Los Angeles home on Sunday, Dec. 14. Sources previously told PEOPLE they were found by their daughter Romy.

According to Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department records, Nick was taken into custody and is being held on $4 million bail. At an unrelated press conference Monday morning, LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said Nick had been booked for murder.

PEOPLE previously reported that Nick was being questioned by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division in the aftermath of his parents’ deaths.

The Los Angeles Fire Department said it was called to a home to provide medical aid at around 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Sources subsequently identified the victims as Rob and Michele.

The couple had been married since 1989. They met while Rob was directing When Harry Met Sally…, which was released that same year.

Together, they had three children, including Nick, who previously has spoken openly about struggles with addiction and homelessness, beginning in his teens.

Rob was the director of a number of iconic films, including This Is Spinal Tap (1984), Stand By Me, The Princess Bride (1987), and A Few Good Men (1992), among others.

The son of legendary comedian Carl Reiner, Rob broke into Hollywood on the legendary sitcom All in the Family.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” the Reiner family said in a statement to Variety. ”We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.” (People)
