The late Mr Chikamnene Eddie Mmuonagorom

The Nigerian Union South Africa (NUSA) has condemned the killing of another Nigerian, Mr. Chikamnene Eddie Mmuonagorom, an indigene of Anambra State, at his home in Floville, Kimberley.

In a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria, NUSA said Mmuonagorom was fatally stabbed on Nov. 9.

The union described the killing as a “senseless act of violence” and urged the South African Police Service to ensure that those responsible are promptly and fully prosecuted.

According to NUSA, two suspects have been arrested, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.

The union extended its “heartfelt condolences” to Mmuonagorom’s family, friends, and the wider Nigerian community in South Africa.

It also pledged legal support for the victim’s family and vowed to monitor the case closely.

NAN reports that this tragedy adds to a long and troubling history of violence against Nigerians in South Africa.

Over the years, multiple reports and community groups have documented significant numbers of deaths among Nigerian nationals.

No fewer than 118 Nigerians have reportedly been killed in various incidents, including xenophobic attacks and other crimes. B

Between 2000 and 2020, one study recorded 127 Nigerians killed in South Africa, according to a review of public policy research.

In March 2025, the Nigerian Citizens Association South Africa (NICASA) renewed calls for an end to “killings, brutality, and injustices” against Nigerians living in South Africa, underlining the urgent need for stronger protection measures.

NUSA has, however, called for calm within the Nigerian community and appealed for cooperation with law enforcement while condemning all forms of violence.

The union reiterated the need for solidarity among Nigerians in South Africa and appealed to local authorities to ensure fairness and justice. (NAN)
