The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested 70 suspects following a viral video of an alleged robbery at Unity Fountain, Abuja.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, disclosed this while parading the suspects at the command, saying they were arrested during a raid on criminal flashpoints around Unity Fountain and its environs.

He said the command ordered an immediate and comprehensive raid after receiving information about the viral video, with the aim of identifying and arresting those connected to the alleged robbery.

According to him, police operatives attached to the Maitama Division conducted coordinated raids across identified criminal flashpoints, leading to the arrest of the 70 suspects.

Sanusi said following preliminary screening and due process, 30 of the suspects were screened and released, while the remaining 40 were retained in custody for further investigation.

“While in the course of the investigation, the victim was able to positively identify two of the suspects as persons he recognised from the robbery incident,” the commissioner said.

Sanusi said the two identified suspects, alongside the others retained in custody, were being investigated, adding that efforts had been intensified to identify and apprehend anyone else who might be connected to the offence.

The commissioner urged residents to remain security-conscious and promptly report suspicious persons, movements or activities to the nearest police station. (Daily Trust)
