The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Monday witnessed the formal signing of a Peace Accord among all candidates running for the November 8, 2025 governorship election in Anambra State.

The event organized by the National Peace Committee (NPC) was held at the International Conference Centre, Awka had in attendance political leaders, security agencies, representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), civil society groups, traditional rulers, and other key stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, the Inspector General of Police emphasized the importance of peace, tolerance, and respect for democratic principles before, during, and after the election. He reiterated the unwavering readiness of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to provide adequate security throughout the election period.

He gave assurance that the Police would remain professional, impartial, and committed to ensuring a credible and violence-free exercise.

Egbetokun further hailed the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, for his proactive security engagements and continuous advocacy for peaceful political conduct across the state.

On their part, the governorship candidates pledged to abide by the provisions of the peace accord, promising to caution their supporters and campaign teams against acts capable of disrupting the peace of the state or undermining the credibility of the election.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Peace Accord signing, represents a major stride towards reinforcing mutual trust, strengthening democratic stability, and ensuring that Anambra sets an example of a peaceful, transparent, and credible election in Nigeria.
