Imo State Gov Hope Uzodimma
Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has commenced the construction of digital bus stops with the facilities designed to provide free Wi-Fi or Internet access to commuters and residents across the 27 council areas of the state.
The construction project is being handled by a team of engineers from Cache Luxury Homes, putting finishing touches to the project.
Speaking to newsmen, the Project Manager, Ebere Smith, disclosed that the digital bus stops are equipped with free internet access for members of the public, especially commuters and visitors to the state, adding that construction work has advanced across several locations in the state.
Ebere noted that the initiative marks a significant step towards modernising public transportation infrastructure in the state, particularly against the backdrop of longstanding public concerns over the inadequacy of designated bus stops along major roads in Imo.
He added that multiple bus stops are being provided in each of the 27 local government areas to improve accessibility and support a more organised public transportation system.
Ebere said, “These bus stops, as contracted by His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma, are fully equipped with free internet access for Imo people. Construction has progressed along the Onitsha Road corridor down to the Mgbidi axis and beyond. Orlu Road has also been covered, alongside Okigwe Road, Mbaise Road and Egbu Road.
“This project is expected to provide designated points for commuters to board and alight from vehicles, potentially helping to reduce indiscriminate roadside stopping and improve traffic flow along major routes. Beyond their transportation function, the provision of free Wi-Fi is intended to introduce a digital dimension to public infrastructure, giving residents access to internet services while waiting for public transport.
“The initiative aligns with the Uzodimma administration’s 3R agenda of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Recovery, which the state government has consistently presented as its guiding framework for infrastructure development and public service delivery. As construction continues across the state, residents will be watching for the completion and commissioning of the facilities, as well as the effective rollout of the promised free internet service.
“The project represents an attempt to combine transportation infrastructure with digital connectivity, with its overall impact likely to be measured by the quality, accessibility, and sustainability of the completed facilities.” (The Sun)
