More facts emerged on Monday evening that the deceased lady, whose children were allegedly given out to unknown persons, had reported to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Ituku-Ozalla, Enugu State, with cancer of the cervix.
Contrary to a viral video on social media that the lady, identified as Chinyere Jennifer James, died during a surgery, the lady actually had no surgery at the hospital and had died while being managed at the female ward 9.
Guardian gathered also that the relatives of the deceased had actually reported to the hospital, paid her bills and taken her corpse and her two children away.
The Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Boniface Uchelue, stated on Monday evening that the deceased lady was admitted to the facility with two diagnoses, stressing that her vitals were weak, leading to her being managed before she gave up the ghost.
“There were no surgeries of any sort on her. Her vitals were weak, and she reported without any of her relatives. She came here with two kids, and while they were here, she breathed her last and her body was deposited at the morgue. So a caregiver who related with her while she was alive took the two children out of pity.
“Now, the pastor of the church she attended was here with a relative of hers. The relative paid her hospital and mortuary bills and took her away alongside her two children. There was no case of handing over the deceased’s children to unknown people. The woman was admitted to the female ward 9”, he stated.
Uchelue also provided the details of the female caregiver, the pastor, as well as the deceased’s cousin, who paid her bill and took her corpse away.
Contacted, the deceased’s cousin, identified as Uche, corroborated the story, saying they have taken custody of the corpse and her two children.
She said they were embarrassed to learn of a social media video on the incident, stressing that, “we would like to know who shot the video and why she did so”. (THE GUARDIAN)
