Tension and chaos erupted in Tarabu village of Kirikasamma Local Government Area, Jigawa State, on Wednesday, as top politicians narrowly escaped lynching during the flag-off of a road construction project by Governor Umar Namadi Danmodi.

Among those who escaped unhurt were the Chairman of Kirikasamma Local Government Council, Alhaji Muhammad Maji, and the member representing Guri/Kirikasamma/Birniwa Federal Constituency, Hon. Abubakar Fulata.

The Incident occurred during the official flag-off of a 23.4-kilometre road project from Tarabu to Gafta, performed by Governor Namadi as part of his citizens’ engagement activities.

Shortly after the event, angry youths reportedly pelted government vehicles, including the governor’s convoy, damaging several cars and those belonging to top government officials and police officers on duty.

Sources at the scene told our correspondent that the attack was triggered by grievances against Hon. Fulata, whom the youths accused of neglecting his constituency and failing to initiate meaningful projects for his people, unlike other lawmakers from neighbouring areas.

*Ritual Suspect Escapes Mob Action*

In a separate incident, a suspected ritualist narrowly escaped lynching after being caught allegedly trying to remove the eye of a corpse at a cemetery in Tarabu community.

The suspect, known as Malam, was reportedly caught in the act by a Good Samaritan who had gone to the cemetery to cut grass. The witness quietly informed other residents, who quickly mobilised and arrested the suspect.

Upon realizing he had been discovered, the suspects fled to the palace of the District Head of Kiri-Kasamma to seek refuge.

However, angry youths pursued and began beating him before security personnel intervened to rescue him from the mob action.

Eyewitnesses said the mob also vandalised the security vehicle used to convey the suspect before officers managed to disperse the crowd and took him into custody for further Investigations.

Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Jigawa State Command for comment proved abortive, as his phone rang unanswered at the time of filing this report.

In related news, the Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 17-year-old boy, Auwalu Muhammad, for allegedly gouging out his sister’s eyes for a money ritual in Wailo, Ganjuwa Local Council of Bauchi State.

Police said the incident occurred on October 17, 2025, when Auwalu lured his sister, Rukayya Muhammad, into a bush and attacked her, removing both of her eyes in what he described as an attempt to acquire wealth. (The Guardian)
