Over 300 gymnasts storm Lagos for Gymfest championship

More than 300 gymnasts are preparing to compete in the second edition of the Gymfest Gymnastics Championship, scheduled for November 1 in Lagos.

The event will feature participants ranging from pre-level 1 to level 7, including children as young as three years old. Gymfest aims to celebrate athletic talent while promoting the values of discipline, teamwork, and national pride through gymnastics.

In addition to the competitions, the championship will bring together sports enthusiasts, coaches, and administrators for discussions on how gymnastics can contribute to youth development and the growth of Nigeria’s sporting culture.Speaking ahead of the event, Sarah Boulos, co-convener of the championship, highlighted its long-term vision and developmental focus.

She noted that Gymfest is not just a competition but a movement designed to improve the standard of gymnastics in Nigeria and nurture young talents into world-class athletes.

“Our goal is to build a sustainable pathway for gymnastics in Nigeria — one that inspires confidence, encourages participation, and raises the next generation of champions,” Boulos said.

Boulos also highlighted the importance of parental collaboration in nurturing young athletes.

“We are promoting the sport of gymnastics and helping parents understand that it serves as a fantastic foundation for all sports. Gymnastics develops essential physical, mental, and social skills in children,” she said.

Also, the Program Director of the event, Yoyin Akpose described GYMFEST as a unifying platform for everyone involved in the sport.

“GYMFEST brings together parents, coaches, gymnastics enthusiasts, and supporters to celebrate and promote the growth of gymnastics in Nigeria,” she said. (Daily Trust)
