Aliko Dangote varsity expels, suspends 46 students over exam malpractice

The Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, Kano State

The Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, has expelled 34 students and suspended 13 others for one academic session following their involvement in examination malpractice.

The disciplinary measures were approved by the university senate after reviewing the report of the Examinations Regulations and Irregularities Committee at its 123rd meeting held on 9 October 2025.

According to a statement released on Friday by the Head of Information, Publications and Public Relations, Abdullahi Datti, the sanctions varied in severity based on the nature of the offences, with some students receiving warning letters in addition to those expelled and suspended.

“The report includes recommendations for different kinds of punishments for students who were found to have engaged in examination malpractice,” the statement noted.

In a separate development, the university announced the establishment of a Centre for Equipment Maintenance to strengthen the management and functionality of its academic and research infrastructure.

The centre is expected to implement preventive maintenance schedules, handle repairs of faulty tools, and train both staff and students on proper equipment use and maintenance procedures.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Musa Yakasai has approved the appointment of Dr Murtala Dambatta from the Department of Mechanical Engineering as the pioneer Director of the newly established centre.

The university said the initiative aligns with its broader commitment to improving academic standards and sustaining research efficiency through better resource management. (The Guardian)
