An Okitipupa Chief Magistrates Court in Ondo State on Friday, remanded four men in the Okitipupa Correctional Centre over alleged attempted murder and unlawful possession of firearms.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Mayowa Olanipekun, gave the order after the defendants pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge levelled against them.

The defendants are; Timileyin Akinlaja, 41; Adewale Akinbe, 40; Akinwale Olanigan, 57; and Theophilus Olamigoke, 64.

The defendants, of no fixed addresses, are facing a three-count charge of felony, attempted murder and unlawful possession of firearms.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Ayodeji Omoyeigha, told the court that the defendants on Sept. 30, at about 2.00p.m at Maryland Street in Okitippupa, Okitipupa Local Government Area committed the offences.

He said that the defendants attempted to kill the complainant, Victor Thomas by shooting him on both legs over an undisclosed issue.

Omoyeigha said that the defendants who were in possession of a barrel of gun with live cartridges, could not give satisfactory account of the firearms.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 516 and 320, Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

He added that the defendants also committed an offence punishable under Section 3(1) of Robbery and Firearms Special Provisions, Cap.174, Vol. 4, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

The case was adjourned until Oct. 22, for further hearing. (NAN)
