Senate steps down electoral bill for more consultations

The Senat0e on Thursday stepped down debate on Electoral Bill 2025, to allow room for more consultations.

This was after chairman of the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters, Senator Simon Lalong (Plateau South) had rounded off presenting the lead debate on the general principles of the bill.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who presided over the session, said Lalong did not give details in the general principles of the bill, and suggested an executive session to consider the bill.

Butt leader of the Senate, Opeyemi Bamidele (Ekiti Central), said the day was too auspicious for the Senate to go into executive session and suggested that the bill be stepped down or another legislative day.

Senate President, Akpabio, thereafter, put it to voice vote, which senators approved its stepping down. (DAILY TRUST)
