State Congress: Cross River PDP decries conflicting directives from party headquarters

Venatius Ikem, Cross River Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP

The Cross River State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Venatius Ikem, has decried the conflicting correspondences from the party headquarters following the state congress of the party.

The state chairman who decried the development said such an action aims to mislead members and weaken the unity of the party.

“We strongly condemn attempts from whatever quarter to undermine the sovereignty of the Congress or to mislead members through conflicting directives.

“Such actions only breed confusion, weaken the party unity and stand in direct opposition to the spirit of justice and fairness which our party represents.

“We call on the national headquarters to align its communication with the Constitution of our great party, respect the will of our members and end acts capable of destabilizing Cross River PDP”, he said.

He said the present leadership of the party in the state emerged in line with laid down procedures and they have already been sworn into office and are discharging their responsibilities in earnest.

While charging party stakeholders, members and supporters to remain calm, he warned that attempts to introduce an undemocratic process shall be resisted.

The Cross River State chapter of the PDP on September 27 this year conducted its state congress which reelected the present state chairman Venatius Ikem.

However, the National Working Committee through the national publicity secretary of the party Debo Ologunagba of the party faulted the congress.

The NWC consequently announced the appointment of a 31 member caretaker committee headed by a former speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Bassey Ewa to oversee the affairs of the party. (The Sun)
