Ex-Rivers administrator Ibas
Ola Olukoyede, Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), was spotted at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, on Wednesday.
The anti-graft czar was seen around the period that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu met with the immediate past Sole administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas (retd).
Tinubu had appointed Ibas to take charge of the oil-rich state at the height of the political crisis in Rivers.
Rivers had been enmeshed in a political turmoil for nearly two years, due to a power tussle between former Governor Nyesom Wike and his successor, Siminalayi Fubara.
Following failed efforts to resolve the crisis, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency on March 18 and appointed Ibas as the sole administrator.
On March 20, both the House of Representatives and the Senate endorsed the President’s declaration, effectively suspending Fubara, his deputy and the members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Ibas left last week and Fubara took charge of the state.
Some stakeholders had demanded probe of the administrator whom they accused of not improving infrastructure during his short-lived tenure.
The Rivers State House of Assembly, presided over by the Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, had during its first plenary after the end of emergency rule, said it would investigate the state expenditure during the six months of emergency rule.
According to the resolutions of the House, “To explore the process of knowing what transpired during the emergency rule with regard to spending from the consolidated revenue fund for the award of contracts and other expenditure.”
Rivers State received at least N254.37 billion from the Federation Account Allocation Committee between March and August 2025 under the tenure of the ex-sole administrator.
Also sighted at the Presidential Villa was Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
It is unclear if Olukoyede and Edun were at the villa over Rivers’ issue. (Daily Trust, but headline rejigged)
