The Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, has approved the creation of 15 new dioceses, bringing the total number to 176 across the country.
Mr Korede Akintunde, the Communication Officer of the Church, in a statement on Thursday in Abuja, said that the new dioceses include five full-fledged dioceses and 10 missionary dioceses.
He said that the newly created dioceses that are under Full-fledged Dioceses included: Ekiti South, Kalabari, Lagos South West, Omoku, and Ozoro.
He added that the Missionary Dioceses include, Eket, Idanre, Ikom, Keffi, Nasarawa, Ogoja, Oyo South, Oyun, Takum, and Zuru.
Akintunde further explained that the approval was made by the Standing Committee of the General Synod, acting on behalf of the General Synod, in accordance with the Constitution and Canons of the Church of Nigeria.
“The processes for election of Bishops, consecration, inauguration, and enthronement will be announced in due course.” (NAN)
