Human rights lawyer and socio-political commentator, Deji Adeyanju said the reason adduced by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for not sanctioning Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike is untenable and laughable.

On Monday, PDP Deputy National Legal Adviser, Mr. Okechukwu Osuoha told the media in Abuja that Wike could not be sanctioned for alleged anti-party activities without a formal petition backed by evidence.

However, he disclosed that the party had established a disciplinary committee to deal with cases of infractions, explaining that no member had been prosecuted or punished because no petitions had been formally presented.

Osuoha said, “At our NEC meeting, we set up a disciplinary committee headed by Chief Tom Ikimi, an elder statesman, with Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, as secretary. They were mandated to address any infraction or anti-party activity by any member of the party, no matter their position, and to bring such persons to book.

“But up until today, no one has been prosecuted or sanctioned. People often ask me specifically about the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, why don’t we discipline him, why don’t we take action?

‘’I tell them it is not enough to merely say someone has committed an offence. A formal petition has to be submitted to the disciplinary committee.”

This comes as Wike, at a media parley on Monday, warned that the PDP risked self-destruction should it field former Anambra governor, Peter Obi as its presidential candidate in 2027.

The FCT minister also backed his principal and presumptive candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), President Bola Tinubu for a second term.

Reacting in a Facebook post on Tuesday, Adeyanju said, “I saw the rubbish PDP said about why they have not suspended Wike and I laughed so hard.

“PDP is too hungry to suspend Wike. Financially and morally poor folks. My advice for everyone in PDP is to go and look for real work or start a trade; politics is not a job. Better still, start BetNaija.” (Daily Sun)
