In a significant move aimed at strengthening the identity and authority of Adamawa State, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has signed into law a bill establishing the official Seal of the State.
The new legislation, titled, ‘A Bill for a Law to Create the Seal of Adamawa and Regulate its Use, 2025’, provides a legal framework for the creation, protection, and proper usage of the Seal, which is now formally recognised as the official emblem of the Adamawa State government.
Speaking after assenting to the bill in Yola, the state capital, Fintiri described the move as a milestone in preserving the state’s identity and cultural heritage.
“This law reinforces our commitment to good governance, order, and respect for our cultural values. It is not just a Seal, but a statement of identity, dignity, and responsibility for all who serve under it,” the governor said.
Fintiri emphasised that the official Seal is more than a design, stressing that it’s a symbol of the collective pride and unity of the people of Adamawa.
“This Seal tells our story as a people, our courage, our intellect, our resources, and our unity. It belongs to every citizen of Adamawa and must be treated with the reverence it deserves,” he stated.
The newly adopted Seal features symbolic elements representing Adamawa’s rich history, cultural diversity, and economic strength, as noticed by The Guardian.
Under the law, the use of the Seal is strictly reserved for official government business. However, limited use may be permitted for commemorative, historical, or educational purposes subject to approval by a designated authority.
To prevent abuse, the law imposes penalties for unauthorised use. Individuals found guilty may face a fine of ?250,000 or up to two years in prison or both. Corporate bodies are liable to pay ?1,000,000, with further legal consequences.
In addition, the law empowers the Approving Authority, under the oversight of the State House of Assembly, to issue additional regulations guarding against misuse or commercial exploitation of the Seal and the State’s name.(The Guardian)
