Gov Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has defended the Peoples Democratic Party’s decision to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South.
Mohammed described it as a move to strengthen unity and stability within the party.
The PDP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) resolved this on Monday during its Abuja meeting where it also confirmed Amb. Umar Iliya Damagum as the Party’ substantive National Chairman.
Speaking in an interview with AIT on Tuesday, Mohammed said the zoning decision was part of an inclusive strategy to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“I am very satisfied with the resolution because I’m part and parcel of it — from the arrangement, strategy, and delivery.
“It is an all-inclusive decision to sustain the zoning formula and to zone the presidential office to the South so we can have some sanity, understanding, and unity,” he said.
The governor urged Nigerians to look beyond personal ambition in politics, stressing sacrifice, collective interest, and national development.
“Politics is not about self-interest. It is about actualization within the framework of party decisions and national progress.
“Everything is predicated on sacrifice, not selfishness. We must live and let live, and remember that power comes from God,” he added.
Mohammed assured all that PDP governors, the National Working Committee, and the Board of Trustees are united in repositioning the opposition party as a stronger alternative for Nigerians in 2027. (The PUNCH)
