Professor Haruna Musa has officially taken over as the 12th Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University Kano (BUK), succeeding Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas who completed his tenure as the 11th VC.
The new VC is a renowned expert in Polymer Chemistry, and was appointed by the University Council on July 3, 2025. He pledged to lead a transparent and inclusive administration.
Prof. Musa expressed his commitment to team work, consultation, and dedication to move the university forward by elevating its standard to a globally-recognised level.
He also commended his predecessor, Professor Abbas, for his impactful leadership and expressed deep appreciation for the mentorship he received while serving as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic).

He also promised to build on the legacy of his predecessors, whom he said had set the university on a progressive path.
In his address, the outgoing VC congratulated Prof. Musa and urged the university community to extend the same level of support to the new leadership.
While reflecting on the handover ceremony held on Monday, Prof. Abbas confessed that the level of the turnout of people from the university clearly showed that his successor is people’s choice.
“In the history of this university, there has never been a handover ceremony attended by so many people. This reflects the kind of leadership we offered,” he said.(Daily trust)
