A major national airline has cancelled hundreds of international flights affecting 500,000 people worldwide, including those to and from Dubai International Airport.
Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge flights between Toronto and Dubai remain suspended until further notice.
The disruption comes as a result of strike action by the airline’s cabin crew staff and affects a significant number of flights due to travel out of Canada.
On the evening of Monday August 18, Air Canada revealed that flights will continue to be cancelled as flight attendants tied to the Canadian Union of Public Employees extend their strike.
Emirates’ flights to Toronto and Montréal continue as scheduled from DXB’s Terminal 3.
Flight information on the DXB website states that Air Canada’s flight from Terminal 3 to at 1.25am on Wednesday August 20 to Toronto has been cancelled, making it the fifth consecutive day of cancellations.
The situation is an ongoing one and passengers are asked to check their bookings before travelling to the airport.
Air Canada flights from Dubai are normally scheduled for departure from 1.25am GST from DXB but have been cancelled since Saturday August 16. You can check the status of your flight via DXB here or from Air Canada here.
Air Canada has outlined advice for travellers due to fly with the airline, including those who were due to travel to Dubai.
Anyone booked for travel with the airline between Friday August 15 and Wednesday August 20 can arrange alternative travel arrangements for free if they have purchased an Air Canada ticket no later than August 17 .
Air Canada passengers can also retrieve their booking to rearrange their flight for free if they’re scheduled to travel between Friday August 15 and Friday August 22. The rearranged flight can be booked for free for travel between Saturday August 23 and Tuesday September 30.
The airline will provide full refunds upon request for any affected flights for the unused portion of tickets purchased on or before Friday August 15, for travel with Air Canada between Monday August 18 and Thursday August 21.
Cancellations may also affect any travellers flying out of Dubai with connecting international flights operated by Air Canada, so be sure to check before you travel. (Time Out)
