Defence Minister Muhammad Badaru Abubakar
The All Progressives Congress (APC) lost to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the polling unit 001 of the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar in Babura Kofar Arewa Primary School during Garki-Babura federal constituency by-election in Jigawa State on Saturday.
The minister, who is an APC chieftain and immediate past governor of the state, cast his vote amidst tight security and left without addressing journalists.
While APC polled 112 votes, PDP won with 308 in the minister’s polling unit.
The by-election across the constituency was held under adequate security presence.
Personnel of the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and others, were seen maintaining law and order at various polling units and other strategic locations at Babura and Garki LGAs.
Mr Ibrahim Shehu, Polling Officer 1 at the polling unit, told newsmen that the election went well without any issue.
At Primary Yamma (005), the Minister of State For Education, Mrs. Suwaiba Ahmad, commended the peaceful conduct of the election. Ahmad also expressed optimism that the APC would emerge victorious at the end of the exercise.
However, some residents went about their normal businesses and there were commercial activities in some areas of the constituency. The election also recorded relatively high turnout in most of the polling units. (Weekend Trust)
