Bolaji Abdullahi, National Publicity Secretary of the ADC
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has refuted claims that the party is working in the interest of the country’s northern region.
ADC spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi, who was a guest on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, described the insinuations as unfounded.
“You see, it’s ridiculous to say the least, and he [Dumebi Kachikwu] should be ashamed of himself,” Abdullahi, a former minister, said on the current affairs show.
“ADC is a party, and we said this from day one, it’s neither a party of the North nor of the South. It’s neither a party of Muslims nor of Christians. It’s neither a party for old people, so it’s a party that is deliberately designed to develop and build the kind of future that Nigeria desires,” the coalition’s image maker said.
Last month, a former presidential candidate of the ADC, Dumebi Kachikwu, accused the party of pushing a northern agenda.
Kachikwu alleged that the ADC, which was recently adopted by the opposition coalition for the 2027 election, is a plot to return power to the country’s northern region.
However, the ADC spokesman listed some key members of the party who are from the southern region, a scenario it said reflects the national spread of the coalition.
Abdullahi accused the government of trying to cause divisions in the party but said the ADC is aware of and working to counter the moves.
The ADC spokesman was not the only person on the show. A chieftain of the coalition, Mani Ibrahim, told viewers that Kachikwu does not speak for the party and should be ignored.
“I think it is good to understand the fact that Dumebi Kachikwu is not a member of our party (ADC), he does not represent the party, and has no right to talk on behalf of the ADC,” the former ADC BoT chairman said. (Channels TV)
