Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Bonifac
Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface says he would fancy a chance to play for a Nigerian club if he could, just to escape the boring lifestyle of Europe, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Boniface made the revelation during the latest edition of The Culture League Podcast – a show he created with Super Eagles teammate Wilfred Ndidi and Raphael Onyedika.
Anchored by popular video jockey and TV presenter, Adams Adebola, also known as VJ Adams, the three players delved into areas of their lifestyle and reality.
Asked where he would go if he had a blank cheque to move to a new club, Boniface said he would prefer to be in Lagos, citing the defunct MFM FC as a possible team to play for.
“I will play for MFM in Lagos,” Boniface said.
The 24-year-old provided more perspective, noting that his choice would be influenced by the desire to stay close to home.
“If Nigeria is like a six-hour drive to Germany, I would stay here and drive every morning to train and play in Germany. Europe is boring,” he added.
Asked what he misses most about home, the striker said, “The food. Not just the food, life close to family, friends, you understand.”
Boniface recently laid to rest every speculation about his future after committing to the 2023 German Bundesliga champions.
In an interview with German outlet Sport Bild, Boniface reiterated that he was staying at the club despite recent speculations about his game time and links with other clubs in Europe.
They will host Hoffenheim in their first game of the season on August 23.(PUNCH)
