ADC Chieftain, Akuma
By PETER ANOSIKE
A chieftain of African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nelson Ahamefula Akuma, has condemned the All Progressives Congress (APC) for embarking on campaigns while most Nigerians don’t know where or when their next meal would come.
Speaking while reacting to the 2027 campaign billboards of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in most of the major cities in the country, he said that what the ruling party is doing is not only insensitive to the plight of the suffering Nigerian masses but also a sign of desperation.
According to Akuma, politics like other things in life is divided into seasons, adding that there should be time for work and time for campaign.
He noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that campaign activities must not start until 150 days to the 2027 elections but because of desperation to retain power, APC is muddling the seasons.
Chief Akuma said that the ruling party must not forget that election is a referendum on the stewardship of an incumbent.
He said that leaving what they promised to do for Nigerian masses and campaigning would surely backfire at the end of the day.
According to him, Nigerians are watching and when the time comes, they would remind APC how they toyed with their destiny.
“That the All Progressives Congress has started hoisting campaign bill boards and even holding rallies just two years into their four years term is a clear sign that they have run out of ideas. Before the next election, there is always a referendum of an incumbent’s stewardship in office. Yes, there is always an appraisal and from all indications the two years of Bola Ahmed Tinubu has left us with nothing to cheer. But instead of trying to see how they would better the lots of Nigerians, they have abandoned governance and started campaigning. The question now is how can you run on the promise of fixing the problems that you and your party caused in the first place and expect people to vote for you. I don’t think that that Nigerians are that stupid,” Akuma said.
He argued that campaigning instead of fixing the dead economy, which include soaring cost of food items, petrol prices as well as escalating insecurity would not save the party in 2027.
He also said that singing “four more years” to the Nigerian masses who don’t know where or when their next meal would come from is the highest form of mockery, adding that it simply showed that the leadership of the All Progressive Congress don’t care what the people are going through.
