Peter Obi, ADC Chieftain
The Imo State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared that Peter Obi as the party’s presidential candidate would guarantee electoral victory, calling on all stakeholders of the party across Nigeria to adopt him.
The party said this yesterday following a stakeholders’ meeting convened by the Imo State Working Committee (SWC) led by the chairman, Prof. James Okoroma, to intimate members on the status of the coalition and latest developments in the party.
Prof. Okoroma while fielding questions from journalists after the meeting, alongside a prominent coalition leader and former Secretary to the Imo State Government, Uche Onyeagucha disclosed that the stakeholders meeting was convened to brief old members of the party on the status of the coalition, and to allay their fears and correct misconceptions about the party being hijacked.
Prof. Okoroma, who was the governorship candidate of the party in the 2023 election, assured the members of the party that nothing was being taken away and that they must adopt the spirit of give and take in the interest of the party
“We decided to bring our people together to reassure those who are members of ADC that nothing will be taken away from them.
They must develop the spirit of give and take. Our brothers who are coming are not coming to hijack the party. They are coming to collectively build the party and to help us win elections,” he said.
Similarly, Onyeagucha, said: “The party in the state and across Nigeria has bought into Obi’s message, which is to move Nigeria from consumption to production economy, as well as the message that a new Nigeria is possible.
“We respect all the other aspirants. They have capacity. We don’t want them to leave the party. We don’t want them to walk out.
“They are all statesmen, but we are saying that they have to remain in the party. Some of them will become leaders of the party, some will be statesmen in the party.
The most important thing is to win this election, defeat APC and drive the current leaders out of government, reduce the insecurity, hunger and eliminate poverty in the country.
“Therefore, we are here to work in conjunction with the leadership of the party who called these stakeholders meetings, to reassure Nigerians that as of today, ADC is the biggest and largest political party in Nigeria.”
He, however, warned that being a very large party, it would have challenges because those who are envious of its status would want to engineer a crisis, alleging that they have tried it in the past through several means.
He added: “The greatest advantage in ADC today is that President Tinubu, in attempting to stifle all the opposition political parties in Nigeria, has succeeded in uniting them. So, the opposition today is bigger, stronger and more efficient.
Onyeaguocha appealed to all members of the party to take advantage of its popularity and build on it by electing the best candidates to contest the election at all levels to be able to win all elections. (Daily Sun)
