The Obidient Peoples Party and the Advanced Democratic Alliance (ADA) are among 110 associations that have applied to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for registration as political parties.

The Obidient Peoples Party, with Mr. Barry Avotu Johnson named as protem national chairman, is one of two applications referencing the Obidient movement, a political wave associated with former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The second is named Progressive Obidients Party.

ADA is the proposed political platform by members of the anti-Tinubu coalition, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers State governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi; former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, the convener of the League of Northern Democrats, Dr. Umar Ardo and a host of others.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who disclosed the applications on Wednesday during the commission’s second quarterly consultative meeting with media executives in Abuja, stated that all submissions were being processed in accordance with the law and that no association would receive preferential treatment.
