The Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) has unveiled a debt validation and discount promo for its indebted customers.
JEDC acting Head of Corporate Communications, Mrs. Saratu Daudu, made the disclosure in a statement on Thursday in Jos.
Daudu said that Alh. Mammanlafia Umar, Managing Director (MD) of JEDC, announced the decision during the company’s quarterly customer consultative forum, held on Wednesday, in Jos.
Umar, who was represented by the company’s Chief Technical Officer, Mr. Hamisu Jigawa, said the initiative provided various percentage discount options to enable customers to pay off their outstanding bills and meet their financial obligations to the company.
The managing director said that indebted customers paying their debt in full would enjoy a 30 per cent discount, while those paying in installments would enjoy a 25 per cent discount.
Umar said that the promo, which would end on June 30, was the company’s form of financial support to its customers.
He stated that the indebted customers were to visit JEDC offices for validation before commencing payment.
The MD urged landlords to regularly audit their tenants’ electricity bill payments, emphasising that electricity accounts were tied to properties and not individual tenants.
He also announced that the company had introduced a technological advancement strategy aimed at improving customer convenience and communication called the WhatsApp Bill Distribution System.
“The innovation enables customers to receive their electricity bills in a graphically appealing design via WhatsApp.
“Customers who want to access the service are to upload their contact information through a link provided on the company’s website.
“JEDC is committed to strengthening customer engagement and elimination of energy theft through active collaboration with its customers
“We urged customers to support the company’s fight against energy theft, which had continued to undermine the company’s operations.
“The company has a whistle-blowing policy, which encourages the public to report illegal activities in exchange for rewards. (NAN)
