Gov Mbah of Enugu State
The Enugu State Government has confirmed recent attacks on farm settlements in Eha-Amufu, located in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, and announced the arrest of two suspected informants alleged to have aided militant herders.
According to the state government, the suspects, one Matthew Ebeh and a woman, reportedly supplied information on security operations and provided guidance to the attackers.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Governor Peter Mbah maintained that Enugu remains one of the safest states in Nigeria, despite attempts by certain individuals to misrepresent the security situation.
“Enugu is the most secure city in the country, unarguably, save for people who like to magnify things, and who believe that the security we enjoy in Enugu is disturbing them,” Mbah said.
The governor credited the state’s strong security framework and proactive response mechanisms for its relative peace, noting that significant investment has been made to detect and prosecute criminal activities.
He highlighted the existing infrastructure, including a Command and Control Centre, the Distress Response Squad with more than 150 vehicles, and AI-enabled surveillance cameras strategically placed throughout the state.
The statement from the governor’s media office followed a courtesy visit by the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 13, AIG Abayomi Oladipo.
During the visit, AIG Oladipo commended the governor for the noticeable improvement in the security of lives and property in the state.
“I can tell you that what we have put in place is really working for us. I want to thank you for the support and your cooperation with the police and other security agencies of the state,” Oladipo stated.
Oladipo, who said he had received briefings from Enugu Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, and his Anambra counterpart, CP Ikioye Orutugu, also announced new strategies to enhance synergy among security agencies in combating crime.
He noted that the state Police Command recently apprehended two suspected armed robbers and recovered a stolen motorcycle and firearms, reinforcing the state’s commitment to sustaining peace and order. (The PUNCH, but headline rejigged)
