The All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday petitioned the Osun State Commissioner of Police (CP), Mohammed Abba, over alleged attempts by Governor Ademola Adeleke’s aides to recruit thugs to attack reinstated local government executives after a fresh Appeal Court verdict.
APC, in a letter addressed to the state Police Command and Department of State Service (DSS) dated June 16, this year, signed by the party’s Legal Adviser, Adegoke Ogunsola, held that the aides are inciting violence which is capable of causing breach of peace.
The letter obtained by The Nation alleged that the plans and incitement of violence are being hatched by some functionaries of the state government and state Chairman of Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Sunday Bisi.
“The information at our disposal is that plans are being perfected to recruit armed thugs that will be deployed to attack the Local Government Councils’ political functionaries who were elected on the 15th October, 2022 on the platform of APC,” he said.
APC urged the CP to deploy security tactics and strategies to ensure the safety of the political functionaries and their property in Council, who are members of APC.
However, the PDP Director of Media, Oladele Olabanji, said: “APC are always jittery on nothing. Perhaps they are afraid of their shadow. They know that, perhaps, that is what they do, when they were in government. But for us, we don’t have anything to do with violence.
“The governor being the leader of the state, if he were to be violent, I believe many of the APC leaders would not be in this state today.” (The Nation)
