Former Senate President Bukola Saraki
Former Senate President Bukola Saraki said the opposition must become better organised and not expect help from President Bola Tinubu.
Saraki said this in reaction to Tinubu’s Democracy Day speech delivered before a joint session of the National Assembly on Thursday.
Mocking the opposition, the president had said, “It is a joy to see the opposition in disarray.
“For me, I will not say, try your best to put your house in order. I will not help you to do so, either.”
However, the president dismissed speculations of pushing for a one-party state, noting that his political antecedents did not support such conclusion.
Speaking to journalists shortly after Thursday’s ceremony, Saraki admitted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been facing internal turmoil.
He said the party m’st puts its house in order to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Saraki stated, “I think we must take him (Tinubu) at his words. I mean, he spoke well, saying that he’s not for a one-party state. So we must take him at his word, and he supports a multi-party. So we are all on the same page.
“That’s why we are going around and bringing everybody to come around. So those who say they are under pressure, there is no pressure anymore. So, we’re all for multi-party, and everybody should get their house in order, as he said, he’s not going to help us, so we are going to sort our own house again.” (Daily Sun)
