The Delta State Police Command has arrested a suspected cultist and armed robber, along with his wife, in Asaba, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen public safety and security across the state.

The 40-year-old suspect, Kingsley Ugochukwu, was arrested by operatives of the Command’s DOPS Buffalo Team in Asaba, the state capital.

Confirming the arrest, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the operation was carried out by the DOPS Buffalo Team led by Commander DSP Charles Evboifo, who raided a food canteen identified as a popular hideout for cultists.

Ugochukwu was apprehended on June 9, 2025, following a credible intelligence report from a concerned citizen. On sighting the police, the suspect allegedly attempted to dispose of a locally fabricated Beretta pistol, which was promptly recovered by the operatives.

During the preliminary investigation, the suspect made a suspicious phone call to his wife. This prompted the police to broaden the scope of their investigation.

Further inquiries revealed that Ugochukwu had instructed his wife to retrieve and dispose of a long-range single-barrel gun hidden in their bedroom. Acting on this lead, the police arrested the suspect’s wife, whose confession led to the recovery of the weapon in an uncompleted building.

The Delta State Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, reassured the public of the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating crime and maintaining law and order.

He also called on members of the public to collaborate with the police by providing useful, timely, and credible information to aid security efforts across the state. (The Guardian)
