Police operatives on patrol

The Niger Police Command says it has detained two persons caught for allegedly dealing in illicit drugs in Kontagora area of the state.
The command’s Spokesman, SP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed this in a statement issued in Minna on Friday.
The statement partly reads: “On May 12, at about 10pm, Police operatives from Kontagora, while on a routine patrol, caught one Jimoh Adamu, 26, of Argungu Road, Kontagora, and Usmaniorun Abubakar, 26, of Sabon-Rijiya Village, via Mashegu.
“The suspects were caught along Babban-Rami/Rafin-Gora Road, on a Bajaj motorcycle with a bag containing 327 wraps of cannabis, 38 packs of Emzol tablets, and four sachets of tramadol tablets and N291,200 cash.
“During interrogation, Adamu confessed to being a drug dealer, while Abubakar assists him in the business.”
Abiodun further stated that the suspects would be transferred to National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation and necessary action.
In a similar development, the command also caught and detained five personss for alleged robbery, snatching of cellphones and receiving stolen items.
According to the statement, on May 9, at about 3.30pm, based on information received, Police operatives attached to Maje Division intercepted Richard Dikko, 27, of Bumburu Village, Gwagwalada, Abuja.
He added that the suspect was caught along Kwanba Antenna Area of Suleja with one Bajaj motorcycle.
“Preliminary findings revealed that the suspect entered a shop under the pretence to purchase some items, and when the attendant was selecting the items, the suspect picked her phone and escaped.
“Immediately the suspect was arrested, he was searched and five android phones, including the attendant’s phone, were recovered from him.
“In a follow-up investigation, four suspected receivers were arrested,” he added.
Abiodun explained that the suspects included David Raymond, 29, of PDP Quarters, Suleja, Emmanuel Alfred, 33, of the same address, Izochukwu Raymond, 31, of Kwamba, as well as Tunchi Amos, 28, also of Kwanba, Suleja.
He added that during a search, one handcuff, Jackknife, and other materials belonging to civilian JTF were recovered from the house of Dikko.
He also said that 11 Samsung phones and 14 other phones were recovered from the shop of Alfred, a business partner to Raymond in Maraba, without any receipt to back the phones.
“Meanwhile, Raymond had confessed that he had purchased over 30 phones from Richard.
“Two other motorcycles were also recovered and all the suspects are under investigation,” the statement added. (NAN)
