Ardent leaders of the People?s Democratic Party (PDP) in the North West geo-political zone on Tuesday lauded the maturity of the elected governors of the party.

They also urged them to muster the rare political courage to protect the Umar Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC).

?Realism and court pronouncements demand that Damagum should stay till the party?s national convention?, the party leaders said at a press briefing to clarify the role of the Acting National Chairman in the unity and development of the party.

They praised Damagum for creating the atmosphere conducive to the exercise of individual?s democratic rights, saying: ?The days of dictatorial, autocratic and tyrannical caucuses are gone?.

The North West PDP leaders applauded Damagum for acting swiftly, dispassionately and sincerely on PDP challenges in several states.

They contended that Damagum?s administrative experience, political sagacity and diplomatic disposition are needed for the unity and successful conduct of the party?s National Convention.

?Umar Damagum is an inspirational leader and a team player. He has been diligent in his duties?, the part leaders said.

Speaking on what they said were the positions of the majority in the party, the North West PDP leaders called on party faithful to give maximum support to the Acting National Chairman to enable him to strategise on how to return the party to power in 2027.

They described the directive of the PDP Board of Trustees (BOT) Chairman, Adolphus Wabara, to North Central political leaders as laughable.

The press statement read in Dutse Jigawa State, by the Chairman of PDP North West Unity Forum, Alhaji Abubakar Musa, lauded Damagum for not engaging in any open confrontation, adopting civilized approach to the method of governance and ensuring that all the shades of opinion of the different party leaders, supporters and well-wishers was taken into consideration during decisions concerning the party?s growth and progress.

They accused some politicians of making unguarded utterances intended to denigrate the leadership of the party and cause a division within the party.

?Our Acting National Chairman, Damagum has been subjected to savage, malicious and self-seeking attacks by moles in the party.

?The PDP chieftains highlighted Damagum?s restructuring efforts and positive leadership traits?, the party highly respected leaders and elders said.

They commended Damagum for his open-door policy and participatory management style.

They also enjoined the party members to remain loyal and selfless.

?The PDP has excellent chance of capturing power at the federal level in 2027?, they said.
