Womangle Founder, Chioma Innocent
By PETER ANOSIKE
The Founder of a pro women group known as Womangle, Chioma Innocent, has called on Nigerian leaders to emulate the President-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, who recently appointed a woman, Susie Wiles, as the first Chief of Staff to the president of the United States.
Speaking while congratulating the woman on her historic appointment, she said that even though Nigeria borrowed its democracy from the United States, it is not giving women the opportunities which United States are giving their own women.
According to her, in the United States, women have been elected governors, Vice President, Secretary of State and now Chief of Staff to the President.
She said that the only difference between the American women and the Nigerian women is opportunity, adding that Nigerian women if given opportunity can excel in any field of human endeavour.
On the accusation that Donald Trump hates women, she said that the only way to prove critics wrong is result.
According to her, with the appointment of Susie Wiles as the first ever woman Chief of Staff in the history of the United States democracy, Trump has shown with action that he has nothing against the women.
She said that Nigerian leaders should also try to prove with action that they value women by appointing them into sensitive and substantial positions.
On her organizations, she said that Womangle was founded to defend, fight and speak for the womanhood.
?If you take a critical look at the society, especially, our African society. It was skewed to favour the menfolk. The inequality between the boy child and the girl child in the society is very glaring. So Womangle was formed to inspire the girl child to greatness. African tradition, world views and even thoughts are anti- woman and that is the main reason why the girl child is not struggling to become the best version of herself. That is one of the focus of Womangle, to change the mindset of the girl child so that they would realize that they could aspire as high as the men. In fact, if we educate and empower the women, they would transform the world for the better,? Chioma Innocent said.
On the defeat of Kamala Harris in the just concluded United States presidential election, she said: ?I want to say that the women should not be downcast because they missed the opportunity to elect the first woman president of the United States. Kamala Harris put up a good fight but success does not come over night. The fight need to be sustained and before you know it, we would have a woman sitting in the Oval Office. Even we are almost there. We have had a woman Vice President, a woman Secretary of State and soon a woman Chief of Staff. So what is remaining is a woman President and I strongly believe that with sustained effort, it would be achieved sooner than later.?
