Benjamin Mendy wins legal battle against Man City over unpaid wages

Benjamin Mendy has won a legal battle against Manchester City, securing around £11 million in unpaid wages from the club.

The French defender, who faced charges including six counts of rape and one of sexual assault, was acquitted due to insufficient evidence.

During the legal proceedings, Manchester City halted Benjamin Mendy’s pay, citing his inability to fulfill his duties.

Without City’s financial support during his trial, Mendy had to sell his Cheshire mansion and borrow money from former teammates to cover legal costs, bills, and child support.

After the tribunal’s decision, Benjamin Mendy will receive most, but not all, of his unpaid salary.

The precise amount still needs to be determined through further negotiation with the club or a future hearing if an agreement cannot be reached.

In summarizing the judgment, the tribunal stated that “Mr Mendy will be entitled to receive the majority of his unpaid salary, although not all of it.”

Judge Joanne Dunlop noted that Mendy had spent two separate periods in custody, totaling about five months out of the 22 months covered in his claim.

During these months in custody, Manchester City was entitled to withhold his pay. (Vanguard)
