Ahead of the Nigeria?s 2027 presidential election, a northern group in a bold move, gathered in Kaduna, to push for a new face in Nigeria political landscape.

The Northern Youth Summit, organised by the National Youth Alliance (NYA), brought together young individuals from 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to demand a fresh start for the country.

Speakers at the summit emphasised the need for unity and support for a young presidential candidate, blaming the current economic woes on a lack of innovative ideas.

President of NYA, Aliyu Abbas, expressed frustration with Nigeria?s present leadership, stating that they are disconnected from the hardships faced by citizens.

Despite receiving threats from established politicians, Abbas said he remained determined to drive change through legitimate means.

He condemned the recent arraignment of minors for participating in the Endbadgovernance protest, calling it inhumane and contradictory to the Child Rights Act.

?The NYA has successfully united youths from various political parties, including the All Progressives Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party, All Progressives Grand Alliance, New Nigeria People?s Party, and others,? he said.

Abbas further noted that ?these young individuals are driven by patriotism and a desire for change that will put Nigeria on the right path.

?This movement is not isolated, as experts have been advocating youths inclusion in governance to bridge Nigeria?s leadership gap.

?With 60 per cent of Nigeria?s population under 25, the country?s youthful demographic is recognising its democratic power.

?The 2018 ?Not Too Young to Run? Bill aimed to increase youths participation in politics, but progress has been slow,? he said. (Daily Sun)
