Governor Aiyedatiwa
Comrade Kunle ?Wizeman? Ajayi, the African Action Congress (AAC) gubernatorial candidate for Ondo State, has demanded the immediate release of Mr Banji Orogbemi, a leading member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), who has been recently and unjustly arrested and remanded for openly criticising the alleged roguery and inefficiencies in the Lucky Ayedatiwa-led government.
Ajayi said in a statement made available to Sunday Independent on Saturday that no one should be arrested for expressing his or her freedom of speech.
Ajayi, a seasoned activist and former Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the African Action Congress (AAC), stated: ?For the umpteenth time, Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa is showing his tyrannical tendencies.
?In August, he arrested me and six others for leading a protest on #EndBadGovernance and swore to keep us perpetually in prison until he lost his sleep for 48 hours and had to let the Comrades go, while lying around that he did not order our arrest, just to do damage control after losing public support and the prevailing debate.
The same Governor Aiyedatiwa unleashed his thugs on us after I spoke the truth about how he used N775 million to re-do the fence of the Government House while the numbers of out-of-school children skyrocketed to over 26,000.
?The arrest and subsequent detention of Mr Banji Orogbemi is an anomaly and he must be released immediately.
?Our party, the African Action Congress (AAC) will take political and legal steps to challenge this alongside all the NNPP and all conscientious people.
?Lucky is taking his ill-luck too far with his dictatorial ways. This must stop. Ondo State is a democratic state and we can never allow some baby Hitters to destroy this.
?We therefore call on all Ondo State people to rise and demand the immediate release of Banji Orogbemi. We condemn the police and judiciary collaborating with the governor to rob people of their social and political rights. Another Ondo State is very possible!? (Saturday Independent)
