POS machine and money
A mob, at the weekend, beat a man to a pulp for allegedly stealing N400,000 and a phone from a POS operator in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
It was gathered that the incident happened at Luck Way axis, Ikpoba hill area of Benin City when the unidentified robber stole the items from a POS operator.
The suspect was said to have come to the woman?s shop, who also sells provisions, pretending to buy snacks and drinks and in the process stole the items.
Narrating the incident, the woman said the suspect came to her shop and demanded for biscuits, drinks and other items, saying they came for a burial and that he wanted to use them to entertain his friends before the event commenced.
She said, ?I provided the items for him and I was about to pack them inside a polythene bag when he demanded for a bottle water. As I went back inside to get the water, he entered the shop and picked the bag containing my money.?
She said as she brought out the water, he asked her to calculate the items and that he wanted to get a bottle of groundnut oil from the nearby shop.
He added, ?But to my surprise, he didn?t enter the shop, he said he was going to. It was then I checked and my handbag was not there, I raised the alarm, which attracted youths in the area who chased and caught him.?
She said her bag containing the money and phone were recovered from him and was beaten to a pulp by the mob before the police came to arrest him. (Courtesy, excluding headline, Daily Trust)
