The Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs will today, Monday, October 21, 2024, hold a public hearing on a Bill for a Law to Repeal and Enact the Establishment, Structure, Composition, Finance and Functions of LG System in Nasarawa State, 2024 and Other Matters Connected Thereto.
In a press statement made available to newsmen in Lafia on Saturday, Chairman House Committee on Local Governments, Hon. Musa Abubakar Ibrahim, said the proposed amendment is in line with the recent Supreme Court judgement which granted financial autonomy to LGAs in Nigeria.
The statement called on the State Ministry for Local Governments, Ministry of Justice, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), State Pension Bureau, Local Government Service Commission, Chairman, State Council of Chiefs and Emir of Lafia, Retired Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad, as well as all interested bodies, groups and individuals to submit 15 copies of memorandum on their observations and recommendations on the proposed amendment bill.
The statement added that all parties involved are also expected to appear for submission and oral defence of their memoranda at the Assembly Complex, Shendam Road, Lafia.
