Nigeria loses foremost diplomat as Ambassador Algazali dies after brief illness

Nigeria has lost one of her foremost diplomats following the death of Ambassador Ahmed Algazali, at various times Nigeria’s ambassador to Iran and Saudi Arabia.

He passed away In Abuja yesterday, Wednesday, October 9, 2024.

A family source disclosed that Ambassador Algazali passed away in the morning hours after a brief illness. “His death has left us devastated but we accept it as the will of Allah,” the source said.

A native of Borno State, Ambassador Algazali served Nigeria for over 60 years – from 1958. He was Borno’s Head of Service from 1979 to 1983, as well as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Iran (1984 -1985) and Saudi Arabia (1993 – 1998). He served as Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) from 2000 to 2010.

The veteran diplomat and technocrat was buried on Wednesday evening and condolences are to be received in his family house in Borno for the next seven days.
