The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2 Command, Onikan Lagos, Adegoke Fayoade, has established a six-member panel to investigate allegations of women being detained in the same cell as men at the Maroko Police Station in Lagos.

This is coming days after an outrage sparked by a viral video on social media, in which a woman claimed that officers from the Lagos State Police Command detained her and other women in a single cell with men at the Maroko Police Station, located in the Lekki area of Lagos State.

Reacting to the viral video shared by Oyindamola, tweeting as #dammiedammie35 on (link unavailable), the Lagos State Police Command clarified that the individuals were not detained in a cell.

The Command also stated that the corridor shown in the video was being monitored by policemen and that the suspects had been released. However, AIG Fayoade will formally inaugurate the panel today, comprising members drawn from the Police, media, judiciary, and society.

The panel members are DCP Ajao Adewale, ACP Ogunsakin Gbenga, Mr. Emma Nnadozie of Vanguard, Ivy Kanu of TVC, Comrade Adeoye Adewunmi, a human rights activist, and Mrs. Blessing Afe, a lawyer and social worker.

According to a press statement signed by the Zonal Public Relations Officer, SP Ayuna Umma, ?This panel will investigate the incident reported in a recent viral video, in which a woman alleged that she was detained at Maroko Police Station alongside male and underage individuals.?
