There is apprehension in Osun State over an alleged plot by some members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to bomb the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
A voice note that went viral on social media has a yet-to-be-identified PDP member in the state alleging that the All Progressives Congress, APC, might win the 2026 governorship election, hence, the need to stop it by bombing INEC head office in the State.
The APC in the state, while reacting to the audio, stressed the need for the Inspector General of Police to investigate the plot in the audio to kill scores in INEC headquarters including AIG, REC and 200 others.
The APC?s Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Olabisi added that the PDP member in the audio revealed a plan to bomb the INEC office during the 2018 elections but was stopped by Senator Ademola Adeleke and Dr Deji Adeleke, hence, the need to investigate the leaked audio.
?Why is Governor Adeleke and his co-travellers afraid of losing the election when it was apparent that it was a party that lost to the PDP and the heavens did not fall? In a similar manner, when Governor Adeleke loses the forthcoming governorship election, the heavens would also not cave in??
Reacting to the purported bombing plans, Ademola Adeleke through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed threatened to direct his lawyers to sue APC?s spokesman, Olabisi for N5billion as damages over a defamatory statement.
The governor described the reaction of APC as irresponsible and defamatory, demanding a retraction to the baseless allegations or face legal action.
?The allegation is reprehensible, baseless and defamatory. Mr Governor has ordered his lawyers to review the situation and demand retraction as the Governor did not and has not in any way planned or plotted any attack on either INEC or any electoral official.
?Upon failure to retract the offensive publication, the state director faces a potential libel suit with a demand for N5billion damages. This deliberate falsehood will have consequences,? the statement noted. (Courtesy, excluding headline, Vanguard)
