The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Kwara State branch, has called for a thorough investigation into the alleged murder of 21-year-old Abdulqoyum Bamidele, a National Diploma student at Kwara State Polytechnic.

The NANS President at the polytechnic, Saheed Olalekan Ishola, expressed the students’ keen interest in uncovering the truth and ensuring justice. This followed an emergency meeting the Students Union Government (SUG) convened.

Abdulqoyum, a private motorcyclist, was involved in a heated argument with a police officer over alleged traffic offences on Wednesday, September 4. He reportedly tried to escape but was apprehended a short distance away.

Good Samaritans discovered Abdulqoyum with a deep wound on his arm and rushed him to Kwara State University Teaching Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

A doctor confirmed that the cause of death was bleeding from the severe wound. Students led by the SUG President and the National President of the National Association of Kwara State Students staged a peaceful march to the police headquarters, demanding justice.

The Polytechnic’s Director of Students’ Services, Aremu Abubakar Garuba, assured the public that the school management is committed to ensuring justice is served.

The Rector, Dr Abdul Jimoh Muhammed, expressed his deep sorrow over the student’s death and promised that the Polytechnic community would remain steadfast in its pursuit of justice. The police spokesperson confirmed that the matter is under investigation and urged patience from all stakeholders. (The Guardian)
