A group of Diaspora Nigerians under the PVC Initiative for Good Governance Diaspora (PIGGD) has asked federal government not to take lightly recent hashtag campaign tagged ‘IgboMustGo’ championed in Lagos State by some interests.
The group urges the Federal Government not only to unmask those behind the hate campaign but also to prosecute them as means to serve as deterrent to others in the country.
The hate campaign started after Nigerians called for nationwide protest over rising economic hardship and bad governance.
The hate campaign orchestrated by Lagospedia, a handle X, formerly Twitter, asked Lagosians and stakeholders from majority ethnic group to prepare for a mass protest against the Igbo community, demanding that they relocate their businesses from the region.
The handle further accused Igbo of orchestrating the nationwide hunger protest in Lagos.
Speaking on the hate campaign, president/convener of PIGGD comrade Wisdom Opara, said that his group is uncomfortable with the silence and inaction that followed the hate campaign by authorities.
“Atiku spoke before we saw a disclaimer from the Lagos State government.
“The announcement was made since, and the state government kept mum.
“We are no longer asking for words, we want action, we want the campaigners to be prosecuted accordingly” the group said in statement. (Daily Independent)
