As the Nigeria Police Force mourns the murder of four of their colleagues shot by gunmen at Mechanic Village, Irete, in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State on Monday, a group of Biafra activists have claimed responsibility for the slaying of the officers.

The leader of the Biafra agitators, who chanted “Airborne” with the chorus response of “Rugged” from his subordinates, was seen in a viral video circulating on social media, unrepentantly taking responsibility for the Monday incident.

According to the leader, the incident resulted from the officers’ defiance in disobeying their sit-at-home order.

The leader, who spoke in the Igbo language said, “It’s not an easy thing. You know today is the beginning of our sit-at-home. We told them to sit at home, and these ones came to rob people. These are Nigerian terrorists who are on duty post today despite our leader [giving] orders that everybody should remain at home.

“But they felt they were government and wouldn’t obey it. This one happened live and direct in Owerri. Look at it (pointing to some guns), three AK-47s and one pump-action. This is it, life for those who think it’s not real. Our leader told you that any police or army in Biafra land, it’s better for you to resign. If you don’t, you [will] pay the consequences.”

Also displayed in the video were some sheets of paper they identified as people’s case files the officers were carrying before they met their untimely deaths. (Daily Sun)
