Abia State police command said it has within the period the present Commissioner of police, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie assumed office last year till now, arrested 162 suspected criminals and recovered a good number of items.
Some of the items said to have been recovered from suspects include Biafran and Mozambican currencies, police camouflage and firearms of different specifications.
Others include vehicles, railway sleepers illicit drugs and vandalized properties.
These were disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, Maureen Chinaka while parading some of the suspects on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Onwuemelie
The PPRO said out of the number, 142 were male while 20 of the suspects were female.
She said the Command has succeeded in reducing the incidents of armed robbery, kidnapping, rape, vandalism of government properties and equally has successfully reduced incidence of child trafficking.
“Trafficked children were safely rescued while many suspects have been charged to various courts resulting in successful prosecution.
Some of the suspects who were arrested by the Police, according to the PPRO,include Innocent Nwaeze, 29,Uchenna Nwoko, 32, Uzoma Erondo, 44, Chinyere Nwaja, 45, and Benjamin Ukaegbu, 62.
Others are Kingsley Emmanuel, 22,Atuloma Emmanuel, 20, among others.
One of the suspects who identified himself as Amadikwa Chigozie from Imo state but resident of Aba, confessed his participation in the theft of a motorcycle but pleaded for forgiveness.(The Sun)
