An ambush by a suspected land grabber and his gang has left two policemen fatally shot and several others injured in Ogbeozoma, Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The attack, which occurred on July 22, 2024, has sparked outrage and calls for justice.

Community leaders, Diokpa Egwuagu Aninye and Chief Felix Ikejiani, have petitioned the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to book.

The petition, yesterday, accused the attackers of using sophisticated weapons and earth-moving equipment to launch the assault, resulting in the fatal shooting of the two policemen and destruction of properties.

The attack Is the latest in a series of violent incidents perpetrated by the gang, which has been accused of land grabbing and terrorizing the community.

The community leaders alleged that the gang has been using their connections with high-ranking security officials to evade justice.

The police have confirmed the incident and arrested some suspects, but the leader of the gang remains at large. The community is calling for his arrest and prosecution, as well as protection from further attacks.

The petition reads In part, “We are issuing this SOS to urgently request that the Inspector General of Police direct a thorough investigation into these heinous crimes.

“Furthermore, we call on the Delta State governor and the Inspector General of Police to intervene immediately to ensure that the investigation is not compromised in any way. We demand a thorough investigation, and where a prima facie case is established, the culprits must be charged to court.” (Vanguard)
