The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has stated that it did not give approval for two months power outage in Ekiti and Ondo states as reported by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).
Recall that the BEDC had posted on its social media handle that the two states will witness 9 hours electricity outage daily from July 1 to August 31.
The post stated that the reason was for the critical maintenance of infrastructures on the Osogbo/Akure – Ado – Ekiti 132kV line by the TCN.
The notice read “Please be informed that the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN is scheduled to carry out critical maintenance work on the 132kV Akure Osogbo transmission line. The planned work involves the installation of Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) and other activities. This will require outage on the affected network for safe working space.”
But the TCN in a rejoinder on its X account, formerly Twitter, said no such request was power outage was approved.
The rejoinder signed by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, on Monday stated that “The publication by the BEDC regarding a proposed outage on Osogbo-Akure-Ado-Ekiti 132kV line for the purpose of installing OPGW commencing on 1stJuly, 2024 has been brought to the notice of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN.
“TCN Management hereby informs the general public that no such outage request has been approved.” (Daily Trust)
