The Delta State Government has reiterated that the ban on commercial motorcycles, popularly called “Okada,” in different local government areas across the state still persists.

The Director General of Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, DSCTDA, Chief Patrick Ukah, who spoke through the Head of Environment, DSCTDA, Mr.Isaac Nwosu, in collaboration with the Delta State Taskforce on Environment, Ministry of Environment, the Nigeria Police, and the office of the Director general, Security services, declared this during an unscheduled monitoring of some restricted areas within the state, where large numbers of Okada riders had returned.

He named Oshimili South, Oshimili North, Ika North East, Ika South, Ethiope East, Sapele, Uvwie and Warri South as local Government areas affected by the recent ban on Okada as means of commercial transportation, adding that several motor bikes have been impounded and to be rendered as exhibits.

Ukah stressed that “the position of the Government on Okada is very clear; there is no going back in order to consolidate on the achievement made so far in respect of the return of sanity to the various areas affected, especially the capital territory.

He added that the security agencies who have been partnering with the state government including the Commercial Motorcycle and Tricycle Association (COMTOA), would continue to sustain enforcement in all the banned corridors, as well as the Taskforce on Environment, DSCTDA and the Ministry of Environment.
