Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma
By UGONNE UZOMA
The Imo House of Assembly has commended Gov. Hope Uzodimma for the installation of night landing facilities at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, otherwise called Imo Airport.
The commendation followed a motion sponsored by Mr Obinna Egu (APC-Ngor Okpala) during the plenary session of the house on Wednesday.
Moving the motion, Egu said that flights, which could not fly into the airport when it was dark, could now do so freely with the provision of the necessary facilities by the State Government.
He said that the project would increase connectivity, reduce congestion at the airport, improve accessibility and spur rapid economic growth in the host local government and the state at large.
The lawmaker also commended the governor’s commitment, dedication, enthusiasm and zeal in carrying out projects that directly impact the lives of Imo people and its residents.
He further said that the state had in the last four years witnessed massive transformation, especially in the areas of infrastructure, human capital development and improved healthcare services under the governor’s supervision.
He therefore urged the house to send a letter of commendation to the governor for embarking on the airport project.
Supporting the motion, the Deputy Speaker, Mr Amarachi Iwuanyanwu (APC-Nwangele), commended the governor for the swift conclusion of the project, which was captured in the year’s budget.
He also called for more airlines to start operations in the airport.
Also, the Chief Whip, Mr Chigozie Nwaneri (APC-Oru East), said the new facilities would translate to improved security and business activities at the airport.
The legislator representing Aboh Mbaise, Mr Princewill Amuchie (PDP), said that the night landing facilities would help the airport to function more effectively.
Following other contributions in favour of the motion, the Speaker, Mr Chike Olemgbe (APC-Ihitte Uboma), granted the prayer.
Olemgbe directed the Clerk, Mrs Chinelo Emeghara, to convey the house’s resolution to the governor. (NAN)
